How to install an Iron Wine Cellar Door

Customers often wonder how hard it is to install one of my wine doors.

I have to say it's fairly simple.

Each door comes with 2 heavy duty hinges and the lag bolts necessary to install the door.

My doors are made 2 inches shorter than the opening.

So you can place a 2 by 4 on the floor in the doorway and set the door on top of it.

This will give you a 1.5 inch gap at the bottom and a 1/2 inch gap at the top which is ideal.

Having someone hold the door in place simply slide the hinges onto the hinge pins that are welded onto the door and position the door where you want it and mark the holes in each hinge.

You may perhaps just want to do the top hinge first.

Then drill a pilot hole for each lag bolt using a 1/8th to 3/16th inch drill bit.

Then place the hinge back in place and screw the lag bolts in.

If you only mounted the top hinge you can now slide the door into place on the top hinge and mark the holes for the bottom hinge.

Repeat the same steps as you did for the top hinge.

And of course you can move the door out of the way once you have your holes marked.

Once both hinges are in place you just slide the door onto the hinges and that's it.

The door will have to be slid into place in the open position.

Once the door is closed and secured it can't be slid up and off the hinges.

I also include a latch plate and the mounting screws for the latch.

It's pretty straight forward. Just close the door to the closed position that suits you and mark where the latch plate needs to go.

Then drill a 1/2 inch hole for the slide bolt. Mount the plate with the 2 screws and you're done.

I hope that was simple enough.

The procedure is the same for a double door only you won't need the latch plate.
